Getting Started with PickIt
A quick guide for new users and beta testers
What is PickIt?
PickIt is a community litter-picking app. Record your litter-picking routes via GPS, see what others are doing nearby, and share your impact. Every pick you log appears on a shared map so your neighbours can see the difference being made in the area.
The Community Map
The Home tab shows an interactive map of picks from other users near you. Picks are colour-coded by age:
- Green — recent picks
- Orange — a few days old
- Red — older picks
Use the map to spot areas that need attention or to see how active your community is.
Your Tabs
- Home — Interactive map showing community picks near you
- Feed — Your personal pick history with cards showing the pick name, date, bags collected, and route map
- Record — Start and stop GPS-tracked litter pick sessions
- Settings — Account management, logout, and replay the onboarding
How to Record a Pick
- Go to the Record tab
- Allow location permission when prompted
- Tap Start to begin recording your route
- Walk your route picking up litter — the app tracks in the background
- Tap Pause if you need a break, then Resume to continue
- Tap Finish when you're done
- Give your pick a name and enter the number of bags collected
- Tap Save Pick — your route appears on the community map
Sharing Your Picks
After saving, a share card appears with your route map, date, and bag count. You can share it as an image, share or copy a link, or jump straight to the map to see your pick in context.
Tips for Beta Testers
Allow background location when prompted — it's only used during active recording.
